Join the Department of Latin American and Latino Studies for an invited lecture by Prof. Elizabeth Velásquez Estrada, who will be presenting on collaborative research and activist scholarship drawing from their recently published co-edited volume Fugitive Anthropology: Embodying Activist Research (University of Texas Press, 2026).
Abstract:
Fugitive Anthropology puts embodiment back at the center of liberatory knowledge production. Centering the insights of racialized, queer, trans, and gender nonconforming researchers, this talk theorizes how racial and gendered power relations rooted in ongoing colonial violence and systemic inequity shape the research relationship — and what it means to do politically engaged, collaborative research with/in communities in struggle.
