The Poetic Border is a chapter in Chavez's developing book manuscript, Companions of the  Calling: Huapango Arribeno and the Poetics of Place - the first ethnographic study of the formal and cultural poetics of huapango arribeno, a form that hails from north - central Mexico. While his book follows the moments of huapango arribeno performance within the lives of audiences and practitioners across Mexico and the US - Mexico border, this talk specifically explores Michel De Certeau's cursory concept of the poetic city in relation to embodied performance as an aspect of transnational migrant life, particularly how it unfolds according to its own spatializing logics and rhetoric, interrupting and intimating legible social field of violences that target migrant bodies.
