Position Purpose:                   

The Assistant Director of Center of Latino and Latina Initiatives supports learning by providing student-centered support and administrative assistance in the delivery of programs and services designed to promote the recruitment, retention, and career programming needs of Latino and Latina undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. The AD also serves as lead advisor to the largest Latino serving organization on campus, LASO, as well as the Center’s liaison to three Latino Greek Organizations and an emerging student organization for immigrant undocumented youth, HOPE. The AD supports day-to-day functions related to event planning, special projects, and general outreach efforts. This position coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, with special focus on student life, admissions and financial aid, and events management.

Essential Job Functions:

1.Assist the Dean with efforts aimed at increasing the recruitment, retention, and career programming of Latino/a undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students.

2. Collaborate across university offices and functions in support of Center’s mission; represent the Dean and Center when necessary

3.Assist in planning and implementing comprehensive university wide events with special focus on Latino/a high school recruitment, AU4U freshmen orientation, Welcome Weekend, and other events

4. Serve as advisor to Latin American Student Organization and assist in the planning, development, and implementation of activities, and serve as a resource to Latino Serving Greek Organizations and HOPE

5. Plan, develop and evaluate student and family centered events aimed at advancing student success by strengthening connection to university.

6.Provide guidance to Latino/a students on navigating the college experience and accessing key resources on campus, i.e. academic advising, financial aid, student accounts, residence life, work study, academic support center, etc.

7.  Facilitate logistics related to events management, including budgetary requirements, i.e. check requests, purchase order requisitions, and recording accurate allocations and revenues

8.Participate in professional development as necessary; attending conferences and/or seminars to stay current with education and workplace trends.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.

Experience:Minimum two years of experience in higher education environment or relatively similar environment required.


•  Commitment to student-centered approach in higher education and sensitivity to diverse populations.

• Ability to motivate and assist students in persistence to degree completion

• Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, and willingness to be flexible as new projects arise.

•Some evening and weekend hours required.

• Ability to travel when necessary to off-campus evening and weekend events, providing own vehicle.

•Bilingual English and Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements:

•Ability to move about campus and other locations.

• Ability to interact verbally, via electronic media and by telephone.
