Allison James

LAS Undergraduate Academic Advisor

Allison James is the adviser for undergraduate majors/minors in Latin American and Latino Studies. She is an alumnus of the program and earned her MA in Latin American and Latino Studies from UIC in 2013. Her research interests include border studies and the politics of representation of gender, race, and sexuality in the U.S. and Latin America. Allison served as a volunteer in the Peace Corps teaching English in Nicaragua. She has also worked for Chicago-based organizations specializing in services for undocumented immigrant youth, neighborhood writing and literacy, and journalism. She is very excited to apply her interests and experiences in her role as advisor here at UIC! Students with a major/minor in LALS should meet at least once per semester with their department advisor. Call or email to schedule an appointment (walk-in advising every Tuesday).
