LALS Annual Degree Celebration
Introduction
On April 25, 2025, the Department of Latin American and Latino Studies held its annual Degree Celebration to honor graduates earning a Major, Minor, or Master of Arts in LALS
The event began with a welcome address by Professor Jonathan Inda, Chair of Latin American and Latino Studies. It featured a keynote speech by Alderperson Byron Sigcho-Lopez of Chicago’s 25th Ward, who spoke on leadership, advocacy, and the importance of Latin American and Latino Studies. Graduating students Anissa Camacho (MA) and Monserrat Garcia (BA) shared heartfelt reflections on their academic journeys.
Master of Arts certificates were presented by Assistant Professor Barbara Sostaita, and Bachelor of Arts certificates were presented by Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies Joel Huerta.
Special thanks to our faculty and staff for organizing this meaningful event, and to the Institute for the Humanities for generously sharing their beautiful space.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024/2025!
